How do we describe the holiday season? Magical, wonderful, exciting, warm… busy, stressful, distracting. If we’re being completely honest, the holidays make it really hard to stay focus and remain productive among the crammed schedules and extra time off. Aside from the hustle and bustle of family plans and travel, you’re likely finding your schedule filled holiday parties, charity drives, and many other events the season brings.

This craziness can spill over into the workplace, making it increasingly more difficult to remain focused and stay productive. With that, we’ve come up with a few tips to help you stay productive and keep a good head-space as we get through the end of the year.

Plan

Learn what tasks are most important and need to be completed. Schedule your workdays and stick to the schedule. It’s hard to make decisions when you’re distracted, so eliminating the need to decide will help.

Take Time Off

Taking time off when you need it will help eliminate a lot of distractions you may be bringing into work. Taking a day or two off to shop and run errands that are clouding your brain will help you stay focused while you’re at work and eliminate the urge to make your Christmas grocery shopping list or order presents online while you’re at the office.

Exercise

With all the added busyness and stress, it’s easy to let parts of our routine slip and fall to the wayside. Keeping on top of your daily routines, especially a fitness routine, will help keep your mind sharp and relieve stress. If you don’t already have a fitness routine, working to incorporate a quick yoga session or some cardio will help to reduce your stress level and help you focus.

Communicate

Remember that you’re not the only one facing the added stress from the holidays. Your co-workers are facing the same issues you are. Talking to your team and working together to make sure all tasks get done and figure out how to work around everyone’s schedules and time off to ensure everything gets done on time.

Celebrate

Of course, we don’t want to forget that the holidays are for celebrating and enjoying. This time of year should be joyful, not stressful and chaotic. Take the right steps to ensure the holidays go smoothly and you can focus on one task at a time in both your work life and family life.
